I cannot begin to tell you how blessed I feel to be where I
am--surrounded by so much beauty. The view,
no matter where you stand, can literally take your breath away if you let
it. The center sits between the Aberdare
mountains and Mt. Kenya. The land is so green and plush. The roads are clay red.
But the most beauty is in the people. Look past the ripped clothes, the weathered
shoes, and the dirty faces and you discover beauty. When people said Kenya was a friendly place,
I underestimated the truth of that statement.
The conviction with which people shake your hand and say hello is
powerful. The staff at the CYEC is so
kind and helpful. If we ask for
anything, they go out of their way to provide.
And the children. I don’t even know where to begin. The way they call my name (“BethNAY!”); the
way their big smiles take over their tiny faces; and the way their fingers feel
running through my hair…it is all enough to lift any mood.
It is all such simple beauty and it is everywhere.
Until next time,
